Is Your eCommerce Biz Using Infographics To Better Market?

This is part one in a two-part series. You can read part two here.

eCommerce is an exploding sector, with sales growing at a rate of 15.1 percent year over year, as of First Quarter 2016.

It’s more important than ever that your business rises above the noise and confusion ever-present online so it can stand out among the many eCommerce businesses like it. Using infographics as a regular part of your content marketing strategy can turn your otherwise “blah” brand into something recognizable and share-worthy.

Infographics Are Website Multitaskers

Everything on your website has a job, from the shopping cart to the graphics and the content. All of it tells a story or draws the eye or holds information, but your infographics can actually function as multitaskers, making them exponentially more useful than any single bit of text or image alone.

Although you generally have to invest more to develop a good infographic, they can do much for your brand, including:

Being excellent teaching tools. According to The University of Alabama School of Medicine, a full 65 percent of the population are visual learners, meaning they learn better using visual mediums. That’s where the infographic really shines. As both a visual and an educational tool, the information you compile into an infographic is easier to digest and thus easier to understand and retain for the majority of your site visitors. You’ll really get your point across by using an infographic!

Giving your visitors something to share. Have you ever seen a red-hot infographic fly through social media like a comet? When an infographic successfully explains a complex issue or tackles a current news item, it has the potential to go viral and take your business with it. Even if your infographic doesn’t get launched into the sharing stratosphere, giving your visitors something to share can increase site traffic, and ultimately, order fulfillment, from the new customers who are hearing about your shop for the first time.

Encouraging backlinking. A really well-made infographic is going to be an infographic that other companies will be interested in borrowing or linking to—and this is great news for you in terms of traffic and search engine rank. The more legitimate backlinks you develop because you’re an expert in your field, the more heavily Google will weigh your value to the Internet community as a whole. Search is fickle and algorithms change on a whim, but for now, the more faith other companies put in your information and trust to link to you, the better that is for your marketing efforts.

Infographics are the great converters and multitaskers of eCommerce marketing, but only if they’re done right. You can’t just slap any old infographic up and expect stellar results, but in part two of this two-part series we’ll explain how to make an infographic really work for your content marketing campaign.
